Climb Catalunya Yoga & Climbing holiday 18/06-25/06

Most climbers who practice yoga will tell you how supportive their yoga practice is to their climbing. This trip is an ideal opportunity to sample some of the world’s best climbing and incorporate the many benefits of yoga into your holiday. It’s aimed at those who already know how to climb but you don’t have to have an existing yoga practice or even be able to touch your toes! All sessions are optional and you can do as much or as little yoga or climbing as you wish.

WHAT'S INCLUDED? (more info www.climbcatalunya.com)
Catalunya is the perfect place to take a climbing holiday. An abundance of rock of all kinds, from steep juggy yellow limestone to compact grey technical verdonesque limestone. From big cobble rock conglomerate to inverted pocketed conglomerate. From the stunning pristine granite to twisted tufa faces. From towering gorges, emerald green lakes to tiny hilltop villages. From full day multi-pitches to lazy sunny rest days relaxing with a spectacular view, Catalunya has it all.

To help you get the best of it Climb Catalunya offer 7 nights packages that mean all you have to think about is climbing and relaxing. We take you to a range of different areas according to your interests and abilities to get a taste of the diversity of rock types and delight in the variety that each day will bring.

The daily schedule of these itineraries revolves around making the most of daylight hours for getting outdoors and on to the crags. You will be taken to the climbing sector each day after breakfast, with packed lunch provided to keep you energised through the day. We will help you to become familiar with the sectors and identify the best and most suitable routes. After a day on superb rock you will enjoy an evening with good local food and wine in the alberg or refugi. We will have a chance to talk through the day's climbing and pore over topos while planning the next day's campaign.

THE YOGA

The morning and evening yoga sessions provide an excellent counterpoint to climbing during the day. Over the last few years we have developed an approach to the yoga practice that suits climbers very well. Run by a team of experienced Yoga teachers who are often themselves climbers, the sessions are designed to compliment your climbing both at the beginning and the end of the day. The morning class of 90 minutes, starts at around 8 am ensuring that all the joints are comprehensively warmed up and supple. It involves gently and deeply warming up the body. We emphasize opening and releasing the upper body, shoulders and arms. After some floor and sitting work the session ends with a light shoulder balance, again to open the upper back and shoulders nd a guided relaxation practice of some 10 or 15 minutes before breakfast at around 9.30.

On return from the cliffs, we offer a shorter more laid back session to stretch out and lengthen out the body after a hard day climbing. Around 7.30pm we do an hour session of yoga focusing mainly on supine and floor work with some long hold Yin yoga poses, as well as stretching with belts and supports, to ease the body into a more relaxed open state which sets you up well to eat supper, rest and go for it the next day. The evening practice helps out iron out any cumulative strains over the course of the week. You will certainly feel the benefit, and avoid any of the annoying tweaks and niggles that a week of climbing daily often provokes.

The majority of the holidays are based at our designated centre the Abella de la Conca Eco-Refugi (www.abellaclimb.com) which is brilliantly situated to access a huge range of areas and climbing styles. The Eco-Refugi has a mix of dormitory and twin room accommodation. In the high mountains accommodation is dormitory based but may include the possibility to have a single or twin room for a small supplement. Transport is in minivan and/or four wheel drive depending on the terrain.

Our week long trips operate throughout the year – usually running from Saturday-Saturday. Once in Spain all prices include pick-up and drop-off at Barcelona train station or El Prat airport, accommodation and full-board meals with wine, transport to and from the climbing sector of choice each day and expert route advice. Costs not included in the package are for travel to/from Spain, additional drinks/meals outside of your accommodation base and travel/climbing insurance.

To maximise your comfort and ensure that you receive all the personal attention you need to make the most of your holiday Climb Catalunya only caters for small groups. The maximum overall group size is 14.

This is not an instruction course and you need to be an independent climber who as a minimum can belay safely and top rope grade 5. If you would like additional instruction we can propose specific training with qualified climbing guides for a supplement.
